The Cotswolds, with its rolling hills, honey-hued villages, and timeless charm, is a wonderfully British destination. Whether you’re wandering through picture-perfect villages, exploring historic market towns, or hiking along the scenic Cotswold Way, one thing is certain: no day out in the Cotswolds is complete without a visit to a cosy, characterful pub.

Pubs are a cornerstone of British culture, offering much more than just a place to pop into for a pint. For many small villages and towns in the country, they are central to the community, a place to interact with friends old and new, make memories and support local business. The Cotswolds boasts some of the best pubs in the UK, from rustic inns with roaring log fires to stylish gastropubs showcasing the finest local produce. Here are three of our absolute favourites, each offering something special and unique.

The Ebrington Arms, Ebrington

The Ebrington Arms, Chipping Campden

Nestled in the charming village of Ebrington, The Ebrington Arms perfectly combines the charm of a classic country pub with thoughtful, modern touches. This award-winning establishment is celebrated for its organic, seasonal menus and its own range of Yubby ales, brewed just down the road.

On my last visit, I enjoyed one of the best Sunday roasts I’ve ever had—complimented perfectly by the cosy, warm, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re sampling their famous steak and ale pie or a pint of Cotswold Gold, The Ebrington Arms embodies everything you could want from a traditional pub. Its cosy nooks, flagstone floors, and dog-friendly atmosphere make it the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring.

The Colesbourne Inn, Colesbourne

The Colesbourne Inn, Cheltenham

Situated on the A435 between Cheltenham and Cirencester, The Colesbourne Inn is steeped in history, housed in a stunning 19th-century coaching inn. On my first visit, I was immediately struck by the beauty of the building itself—the quintessential honey-stone exterior, set just a stones throw the picturesque Cotswold countryside, is nothing short of enchanting.

Inside, the pub exudes warmth and character, with roaring fires in winter and a lovely outdoor seating area for summer days. Their menu of hearty, traditional dishes never fails to impress—think Beef & Ale Pie and excellent Fish & Chips, with all the extras you know and love. Popular with locals and visitors alike, this is the perfect place to stop for a memorable meal and a refreshing pint of local ale.

The Boxing Hare, Swerford

The Boxing Hare, Chipping Norton

The Boxing Hare, located near Chipping Norton, is a fantastic pub that stands out for its exceptional food and inviting charm. I’ve visited this pub in both rain and shine, and it has never failed to delight. On a sunny day, the outdoor terrace offers stunning views of the Oxfordshire countryside, while on rainy afternoons, the cosy inside, with its lovely nooks and corners, is the perfect retreat.

The menu changes with the seasons, offering creative dishes made with the finest local ingredients. Every bite feels like a celebration of Cotswold flavours, whether it’s tender venison, iconic Sunday Roasts, or a perfectly indulgent dessert. The Boxing Hare also boasts an extensive wine list, making it an ideal choice for special occasions or simply treating yourself.
