Nestled in the heart of Shropshire’s idyllic countryside, Trillow House is the perfect tucked away retreat for those seeking a getaway steeped in history and charm. Set in the picturesque village of Clungunford, this beautifully restored Victorian Gothic home invites you to unwind in understated luxury, surrounded by some of England’s most breathtaking landscapes. We were lucky enough to visit last week, instantly falling in love with it, and we know you will too.
The Stay
Originally built in the 1850s as a School Master’s House, Trillow House seamlessly blends its historical roots with contemporary comforts. This elegant two-bedroom property can accommodate up to four guests, making it an excellent choice for couples, friends, or small families. Upstairs, you’ll find a king-size double bedroom and a twin room, both designed with a careful balance of period charm and modern sensibility. There are two things that struck me most about Trillow House; its size and the natural light that courses through the rooms.
It is deceptively large. Do not be fooled by it being two bedrooms, there is plenty of space in this stunning stay to feel you can have find a quiet corner when you need to sneak off and dive into a good book, and also ample living spaces for bringing everyone together. Also, the large, traditional windows let in so much light it really does feel like such a calming and happy place, warm and inviting throughout.
The heart of the house is its cosy sitting room, complete with a smart TV for laid-back evenings in, while the dining room offers a stylish space for shared meals, with a lovely view of the garden. The well-equipped kitchen—boasting everything from a dishwasher to an induction hob—makes cooking an absolute pleasure. Eco-conscious travellers will appreciate the underfloor heating powered by an air-source heat pump, ensuring comfort with minimal environmental impact, toasty.
The Outdoors
Step outside and you’ll find a tranquil, private garden perfect for whiling away sunny afternoons or enjoying a barbecue under the stars. The space is designed for relaxation, with outdoor seating and a gas barbecue on hand for al fresco dining. For adventure enthusiasts, a locked shed is available to store bicycles, making Trillow House an ideal base for exploring Shropshire on two wheels.

With its enviable location just eight miles from Ludlow, Trillow House places you within easy reach of one of the most charming market towns in the UK. Known for its medieval architecture, vibrant food scene, and lively festivals, Ludlow is a must-visit for history buffs and food lovers alike.
