*This is a reposted post from our January 2023 stay at Shepherds Cottage, Chipping Campden*

January. Some years it flies by, some years it feels like it will never end. For me, this January certainly dragged its feet. The carrot on the end of the stick was a 3 night break in Chipping Campden towards the end of the month, which felt like it was getting further away as the days went on. Then, finally, the 20th was upon us, the car was being packed and we were on the road. When organising this trip last October, I wished it was sooner. The Cotswolds is magical at Christmas and I was starting to think I should have opted for a December getaway. But now, after experiencing the foggy morning walks, the unhurried feeling in the air and the quieter hotspots, I am of the opinion that January may actually be the best time to visit The Cotswolds.
Some parts of the holiday were planned, some spontaneous, but we definitely packed a lot in. Here's a bit more about our stay, at the magical Shepherds Cottage.

The one aspect of the trip which required no deliberation was where to stay. I first came across Shepherds Cottage in October 2021. I am sure by now you too have seen them on Instagram (@ShepherdsCottage_), or found their page on Hidden UK Gems.

Prior to this stay in January 2023, I had only experienced the cottage from the outside and through photos, the reality did not disappoint.

Some say location is the most important thing when it comes to property. Some would say it's all about the property itself. Well, Shepherd's Cottage scores full points for both. Until 2021, when the current owners purchased it, the cottage had never been a property in it's own right before. It has been meticulously and considerately restored and brought to life, finding the balance between luxury and comfort, whilst still keeping the character which makes it so charming. That's the second box of 'property' ticked, but what about the location? It is just right, for a number of reasons which will become clear as you read on.

Our route took us left at this cottage, and after a short drive up this road, Catbrook, you are met with The Bakers Arms, a fantastic, proper country pub which is an absolute must visit when staying at the cottage, once you get to here, you know you're close! The left turn just after the pub takes you up a tucked away opening, and within seconds you are greeted by your parking space for the cottage. We had arrived. We took the short path through the walls, almost like a magic portal to what lies ahead, and then, Shepherds Cottage is well within your sights.

It is impossible to not feel completely relaxed as you enter the cottage. The images for the property are stunning, but I would say even these do not fully do Shepherds Cottage justice. It is only when you get inside that you can appreciate the space, and all the little details that have gone into making this the idyllic Cotswolds haven it is today, and of course, you cannot experience smells through a picture! The reed diffusers and soaps smell nothing short of luxurious as they subtly waft through each room. Everything is just right and has been carefully considered to give you the best stay possible. To sum up this absolute gem, if fairytale country cottages tucked away in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with all the amenities you would need including serene garden, log fire, fast Wi-fi, comfy beds, child & pet friendly aaaand just a 2 minute walk from the local pub, then Shepherd's Cottage is for you!
