Chandlers Lodge B&B, Camelford
15 Clease Rd, Camelford PL32 9QX
In the North Cornwall town of Camelford, within easy reach of rugged coastline, moorland walks and fishing villages, Chandlers Lodge B&B brings new life to a Victorian property with a long history of welcoming travellers. Built around 1880 and once run as a boarding house for almost a century, the building has been carefully restored by owners Rob and Natalie after years standing empty, bringing warmth and character back to a place deeply woven into the town’s past.
Formerly home to the Wakefield family, printers and booksellers to the local area, the house still retains touches of its Victorian heritage despite decades of change. Today, it balances those original details with thoughtful modern comforts designed for relaxed Cornish stays throughout the year.
Guest rooms are all ensuite and comfortably styled, with smart TVs, fast fibre WiFi and streaming services including Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ making slower evenings in feel particularly easy after long coastal days exploring North Cornwall. Amazon Echo devices and carefully chosen in-room drinks, from freshly ground Lavazza coffee to organic teas and Fairtrade hot chocolate, add small details that feel properly considered rather than simply functional.
Mornings begin with generous breakfasts served from 7am, ranging from pastries, fruit and homemade yoghurt through to full Cornish breakfasts prepared with care. Vegetarian, vegan and halal options are all available, reflecting the owners’ clear focus on making guests feel genuinely looked after. Supper options are also available, particularly welcome after long days spent exploring nearby beaches, Bodmin Moor or villages along the North Cornish coast.
Outside, the house opens into a surprisingly spacious garden with terrace seating and quiet corners for slow breakfasts or evening drinks, whilst practical touches including EV charging, cycle storage and flexible parking make it particularly well suited to road trips and longer touring stays.
Perfectly positioned for exploring Tintagel, Boscastle, Port Isaac and the dramatic landscapes of Bodmin Moor, Chandlers Lodge offers a relaxed and well-run base that feels both personal and quietly dependable — the sort of place that understands hospitality is often found in the smaller details.
