Gatehouse Luxury Lodges, Castle Douglas
Gatehouse Luxury Lodges, Gatehouse of Fleet, Castle Douglas DG7 2DE
Set into the hillside above Fleet Bay, Gatehouse Luxury Lodges combines contemporary self-catering accommodation with some of the most impressive views in Dumfries and Galloway. Just two miles from Gatehouse of Fleet, the five lodges look across rolling countryside towards the Solway Firth, with the Lake District and even the Isle of Man visible in the distance on clear days. Most guests come here to slow down: long mornings watching the tide over Fleet Bay, a woodland walk into town and evenings watching the light change across the Solway.
Designed and built by owner James, each lodge is modern, spacious and arranged on a single level, with huge expanses of glass making the surrounding landscape a central part of the stay. Interiors are comfortable and thoughtfully equipped, with open-plan living spaces, well-appointed kitchens, generous bedrooms and plenty of room to settle in for anything from a quiet weekend to a longer escape.
The collection includes Seascape and Silver Birch, sleeping four, alongside the larger Ocean Drive and Cairn Dyke, which each sleep six. Miller’s Hill is the newest addition, sleeping four in a woodland setting, while both Miller’s Hill and Cairn Dyke have their own wood burners. Three of the five lodges welcome dogs, with Ocean Drive and Silver Birch also welcoming cats – a particularly useful option for those who prefer not to leave their feline companions at home. All five lodges are arranged on a single level, and EV charging is available on site.
The location makes it easy to enjoy this corner of South West Scotland without travelling far. A walk from the lodges leads through Cally Woods into Gatehouse of Fleet, where independent cafés, pubs and restaurants await, while nearby Sandgreen, Mossyard, Carrick and Brighouse offer beautiful stretches of coastline to explore. Woodland trails, cycling routes and the wider landscapes of Dumfries and Galloway provide plenty more for days outdoors.
Wildlife is equally abundant closer to home. Red kites regularly circle overhead, while deer, foxes, stoats, hares and other visitors can often be spotted around the surrounding countryside and from the lodges themselves.
Whether you spend your days exploring the coast or simply stay put and watch the changing light and tides through the panoramic windows, Gatehouse Luxury Lodges offers a peaceful and beautifully positioned base for discovering one of Scotland’s most underrated regions.
