Limehouse Library Hotel, Canary Wharf
Limehouse Library, 638 Commercial Rd, London E14 7HS
For more than a century, Limehouse Library was a place where Londoners came to discover stories. Today, it still is.
Housed within the beautifully restored former Limehouse Library, this distinctive East London hotel has transformed a historic public building into one of the capital’s most imaginative places to stay. Originally opened in 1901, the building served the local community for over a hundred years before closing in 2003. Following an extensive restoration, it reopened in 2022 with a new chapter to tell.
Each of the hotel’s 75 rooms is inspired by a different historical figure, from Charles Dickens and Jane Austen to Marie Curie, George Orwell and Isaac Newton. No two rooms are the same. Thoughtfully designed interiors, bespoke furnishings and carefully considered details celebrate the lives and achievements of these remarkable individuals, creating a stay that feels both luxurious and genuinely memorable.
Beyond the rooms, the building remains true to its literary roots. A beautifully curated library invites guests to browse works by the writers, scientists, philosophers and artists who inspired the hotel itself, alongside books covering history, gastronomy, music and culture. It’s the sort of place that encourages guests to slow down and linger a little longer.
The experience extends further still, with a restaurant, rooftop terrace, wellness facilities and a traditional Turkish bath offering moments of relaxation after a day exploring London. Meanwhile, Canary Wharf, the City and many of London’s best-known attractions are all within easy reach via nearby Limehouse DLR.
While many boutique hotels focus solely on design, Limehouse Library Hotel offers something rarer: a genuine sense of character. Every room has a story, every corner reflects the building’s remarkable past, and every stay feels a little different from the last.
A beautifully restored landmark where history, literature and hospitality come together under one roof.
