The Mill Barn, Somerton TA11 6DG

Tucked away in a tiny hamlet on the outskirts of the village of Keinton Mandeville near Glastonbury. The Mill Barn is the sort of place where the pace of life resets almost immediately. A no-through lane leads you in as the sound of The Mill Stream replaces road noise and open fields stretch out towards Glastonbury Tor in the distance. It feels peaceful, private and unhurried from the outset.

The Mill Barn itself is a carefully converted agricultural building with centuries of history behind its stone walls. Inside, the main living space rises to the apex, where whitewashed walls meet oak floors. The layout designed for comfort and relaxation is open, spacious and light. A central kitchen island anchors the space, while the wood burner brings warmth on cooler evenings and gives the room its natural gathering point.

Double doors open onto a flagstone patio overlooking the garden and stream. It is set with table, chairs, sun loungers and barbecue for relaxing outdoor use. The garden feels soft with lawn giving way to a lavender-lined path that leads down to a stone bench set right at the water’s edge. This is where mornings drift into afternoons, toes dipped into the stream and kingfishers occasionally flickering past in a flash of blue.

Sleeping accommodation is split over two levels. On the ground floor, a double bedroom sits opposite a well-appointed bathroom with both bath and a walk-in shower. Upstairs, a flexible twin room converts into a king-size double room, with elevated views across the surrounding fields towards the Tor.

The Mill Barn balances seclusion with convenience. Walks begin from the front door and wild swimming is nearby at West Lydford Weir walking via apple orchards.

A village shop and a pub are all within walking distance. The atmospheric Somerset market towns Castle Cary, Bruton, Somerton and Glastonbury are only a short drive away.

It’s a stay shaped by its setting best enjoyed slowly and remembered for how it makes you feel.
