Troutbeck, Windermere LA23 1PL

Perched above the stunning Troutbeck Valley, The Mortal Man is a quintessential Lake District inn. Known for its warm hospitality, this dog-friendly gem is in the perfect location, with wondrous views as far as the eye can see. Whether you are looking for the perfect base to explore the stunning local scenery, or somewhere to hunker down in for a pint and a hearty meal, The Mortal Man Inn is the place for you. Steeped in history, the main bar area dates back to 1689 and has always been a public house. If the walls could talk, I’m sure they’d have a story or two! With roaring open fires in three separate rooms, it really is an inviting spot for cosy afternoons after a day spent exploring nearby Windermere or Ambleside.

Each room at the inn comes equipped with Wi-Fi, while Superior rooms offer the option of an extra bed or cot for families. The Duck View Studio provides an ideal setup for families of four, offering a private retreat on-site. Outdoors, you will be seriously impressed with the beer garden, providing panoramic views of the surrounding fells and the perfect place to while away the time on those sunny afternoons. Animal loving guests can also enjoy the delightful company of the inn’s resident animals, including two cats, ducks, horses, and sheep, adding to the inn’s rustic charm.

Dining at The Mortal Man Inn is a treat in itself, with a menu showcasing hearty, locally sourced dishes. Relax with a pint in the bar or garden room, both wheelchair accessible. You will be well looked after by the small but dedicated team on site, who ensure everyone who walks through the door is welcomed with open arms. With an EV charger, ample amenities, and a warm atmosphere for families, couples and solo travellers alike, The Mortal Man Inn offers a memorable and relaxing base for your Lake District adventures. From fell walks to fireside chats, this charming inn is a gem worth discovering for yourself…
