Hidden within 3.5 acres of private grounds beside the River Esk, The Old Millhouse is a beautifully restored country house offering complete privacy just eight miles from the centre of Edinburgh. Dating back to 1703, this historic B-listed property sleeps up to ten guests and combines original character with elegant interiors, generous entertaining spaces and its own private wellness area.

The house was rescued from dereliction by owner and interior designer Sally De Waard, who began its extensive restoration in 2012. Today, five individually styled en-suite bedrooms are spread across the upper floors, with luxurious Hypnos beds, beautiful fabrics and thoughtful details throughout. Each room has its own character, while the entire property is exclusively yours for the duration of the stay.

Downstairs, a large and exceptionally well-equipped kitchen makes group cooking straightforward, opening into the light-filled Orangery overlooking the gardens. Its large dining table provides a natural gathering place for long meals, while comfortable sofas and a contemporary fireplace make it equally inviting for relaxing afterwards. Elsewhere, guests can settle beside the log fire in the drawing room or retreat to the cosy snug and whisky bar.

Outside, manicured gardens, woodland and river frontage create a surprisingly peaceful setting so close to Edinburgh. The private wellness area includes a hydrotherapy hot tub spa, wood-fired sauna and cold plunge, while the grounds offer plenty of space for al fresco dining, croquet or simply watching the local wildlife.
